The Benefits of Owning an Air Purifier
If you watch television, listen to the radio, or surf the internet, there is a good chance that you have heard of air purifiers before. Air purifiers are electronic machines that work to make indoor air healthier. This is done by trapping harmful air particles in the filters or collection grids. Essentially, this means that your air will not only be healthier, but easier to breathe.

Hoover Platinum Type-Q HEPA Vacuum Bags, 2-Pack, AH10000ReviewsI think these bags do a pretty good job of filtering the particles - you almost don't smell anything while vaccuming. I think they are well worth the price. I love my Hoover "Platinum Edition" vacuum cleaner. Yes, the bags are somewhat expensive, but the quality is great and Amazon was a better route to go than searching locally. I will be back for more. The bags work very well but I think they are a little on the pricey side. These bags are standard equipment for my Hoover Platinum upright vacuum cleaner. They are more expensive than the bags I used to buy for my Eureka boss or the bags for my Panasonic canister. Keep in mind, however that these bags are HEPA media, trapping dust and pollens down to .3 microns. With such an effective bag in the vacuum, there's no need to have a separate and expensive HEPA filter too. I have a personal preference for bagged vacuums and like the idea of trapping and keeping all the carpet gunk in a contained medium. The bags look and feel of high quality and are heavier and thicker than other vacuum bags I have used. They feel soft and almost clothlike. I like that the bags are easy to install and go on tightly so that there are no bursts of dust thrown back into the air. These Q-HEPA bags are very large and I've read anecdotes of them lasting up to six months. I dont think they'll last that long for me; I vacuum the house every day because lots of dirt is tracked in the house by two dogs and myself. The owner's guide for the vacuum advises not using any scented powder or powdered cleaner on the carpets because the dust may clog the bags. This could be a problem for those who use Capture carpet cleaner as I do. Also if one gets fleas in the carpet, it's best to vacuum often and change the bag frequently, an expensive proposition with these bags. To keep the bag smelling fresh I like to add a scent tablet, car air cleaner, or some potpourri to the bag before installation. The price for these bags on Amazon is good, especially with the four for three deal if it's available when you read this. Other vendors list these bags for slightly less than Amazon does, but consider the additional postage charged by these sellers. Finally - I really like the bags and love the Hoover Platinum vacuum cleaner. I really enjoy these bags in my new Hoover Platinum vacuum cleaner. MUCH more room than a bagless. I can do my whole house 3200 sq. ft. without once changing or emptying anything - and not just once either. Which means MUCH MUCH less dust floating around me. What this bag takes in, it KEEPS. I really can not see a single piece of dust coming out of this vacuum cleaner. Lest you think I don't HAVE dust, I have a chocolate lab that produces it's weight every 10 days in shed hair, and a son that is learning to cook. I also live in Texas, so everything aquires a fine patina around here. *smiles* The bags seem expensive, although Amazon is the cheapest we have found them. It is worth it to me to be able to keep going when my energy is up enough to vacuum, and for the lack of post vacuum dust that remains. Average Rating:![]() |

Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright Vacuum with Canister, Bagged, UH30010COMReviewsI have had this vacuum for 6 months now and have had no problems. I previously had an Oreck. This Hoover out performs the Oreck for suction/pickup and is much quieter. I like it having 2 speeds and being self adjusting for height. The helping handle on it is handy too. I would definately recommend it. I'm very happy with it. I bought this vacuum based on the positive reviews posted. I received the vacuum, used it once and the bag filled up after I vacuumed the new carpet in a room. So, I changed the bag and nothing was being sucked into the new bag. So, I made sure I installed the bag correctly (it was) and cleaned out the bottom thinking something was clogging it. I even used a portable vacuum to make sure nothing was blocking the long tube leading to the bag. The only thing this vacuum did was spit stuff out that I just tried to vacuum up. A total waste of money. After reading the negative reviews of similar problems by other purchasers, I took it to a Hoover authorized dealer who confirmed my experience (he had 6 that were being repaired or traded in). We had a $600 Miele canister vacuum for the last 15 years that finally blew up. I started checking the ratings and reviews and decided an upright would be best for our house since we don't have any stairs to deal with. I was kind of surprised at all the positive reviews for this little Hoover considering how little it cost compared to our old vacuum, but they were right. Here is my review: Pros: Very light and super easy to use. Very strong suction, does the job much better than our old expensive vac. LED headlights. This is a really cool feature. The cord is longer than our old vac. The little canister is handy for little stuff like air conditioner vents and ceiling fans etc.(And it works well too) The bag is big and easy to change. Both vacuums have HEPA filters. It takes up a lot less space in the closet. No more dragging the old ball and chain canister around anymore. It cleans our house much better and much faster. Cons: When you are on tile or wood it's really loud, REALLY loud. Not bad at all on carpet. No automatic cord winder. No big deal, we can live without it. Hi Everyone, I guess I could be called "OCD". I have two Orecks which I thought were keeping my house clean. I was Wrong! I have an Oreck gold and a Duel stack. Just to see how my new Hoover really worked, I first vacuumed with the light weight Oreck Gold then my new Hoover. I cut open the bag after one use (yes they are a little pricey, but I had to see) and all I can say was OMG! I took pics cause it was incredible, I mean the hair, dust, dirt and whatever else was hidding was there to see. I took pics hoping to upload them to show people. My Hoover lightweight Platinum makes a weird clicking, I guess it could be normal for this vac?? It seems to be coming from the brush roll. I heard it the first time I turned it on so nothing is stuck in there. All I can end with is " WOW". Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright Vacuum with Canister, Bagged, UH30010COM I had an unnatural affection for this vacuum when it arrived. It's light, has a great design, and worked extremely well! It didn't take too long, though, for super suction to take up too much carpet pile and burn out the motor. Within the first month. The canister vacuum is great, but I bought it for the upright. Doh. Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA FilterReviewsThe filter seems to do a good job. It is not nearly as quiet as some reviewers mention, the sound is quite audible at night, but not irritatingly so. The ionizer switch lights up just as much as the built-in "night light." Ionizers are known to create ozone (see Consumer Reports.) The manual says not to use the ionizer if you suffer from asthma. Put all these together and it sounds like the ionizer is not completely safe. I recommend not using the ionizer when the room is occupied, or only for short periods of time. If it has been on for an extended period of time, let fresh air into the room before spending some time in the room. This small air cleaner is best for very small areas. It sits atop my cat's litter box located in the bathroom and does an adequate job of controlling litter box odors between changes. It can also be mounted on a wall if you don't have a place for it to sit. Replacement filters are relatively expensive at $42.00. It's fairly quiet on low and has strong airflow. I think it's a too noisy and too small for the average bedroom. Permanent filter doesn't really mean permanent however. Permanent filters do become clogged over time and simply must be replaced. It's a decent little unit for very small areas.......recommended!!!! Looks cute. Loud. and my place needs cleaning... nothing in the filter after 2 weeks of running. Blah! this thing is pretty quiet, on high setting it just kinda fades into the background and it does it's job. awesome deal for the price. I was going to wait awhile and review after I'd used the product a little longer, but based on my initial impression, I'm pretty disappointed with it. The unit looks fine and seems reasonably sturdy, but it's quite noisy, even at the lowest setting, and the fan emits a shrill whirring sound that does not seem like white noise to me. It's impossible to ignore it. It sounds like an airplane. Maybe the problem for me is it seems to be generating sound at a different frequency from the lower level hum of the air conditioner and computer in the room ( so the various fan noises are not harmonically 'in sync". ) It has a much higher pitch than my last air purifier, which I loved, but was discontinued. I still have that one, but can no longer find filters for it, so I only use it for white noise and as a fan. Worse yet, after using the Honeywell for a few hours (without the ionizer turned on and the door closed), the room actually started to smell terrible. I dont know if this equipment requires a 'break in period' to air out the harsh (chemical/smoke) smell of the filter, but it was a very unpleasant and irritating -- hardly what one wants in an air "purifier"! As for the noise -- on high it is much too loud - on low, I had to turn it off so I could watch tv and then get some sleep. My trusty old (Amcor HEPA tower) filter provided a steady unobtrusive low-pitched hum, a cool breeze, and genuine HEPA filtration and ionizer that made the air feel "good." This unit blows air out of the top, so if you want it to act like a fan with air aimed horizontally , you have to flip it on its side (which , on a positive note, also takes up a bit less room on the end table). Even in that position, though, with the output aimed strategically, it doesn't seem to be circulating much air, especially given the intensity of the fan. I'm willing to give it a try, so will leave it running while away from home today and will see if things improve noticeably. The room air was definitely worse with it on than with it off last night, and while this morning the chemical emissions were less noticeable, the air quality in the room had not improved noticeably. No dust seems to have been collected while the unit was on. I dont know if this is the way they ALL are, if this will improve after a 'break in period', or if this particular unit has a problem, but at this point I can't recommend it and probably will not keep it. To be fair, I'll give it a few days and report back and revise my review if the situation improves. Update: After almost a week I finally opted to return the unit. It made absolutely no difference in the air quality of the small bedroom (though, the noxious smell that emanated from it when I first used it abated after about two days), there was very little air circulating, despite the really loud fan, and no visible dust was collected. It was pretty obvious that this was doing nothing for the quality of the room air and it was so annoying when on, I had to turn it off at night . (I should probably add that I am accustomed to using a filter on the bedside table, but I moved it across the room, and it was still too loud.) I decided to shop for another option rather than just tolerating this one. On the plus side, kudos to Amazon for making the return easy. Their customer service is top notch, and I really appreciate it. Average Rating:![]() |

Handful of StarsReviewsDave McKenna is one of the most consistent of pianists--his run of discs for the Concord label is of invariably high quality. Most of them are solo discs, & this is no exception; as usual with McKenna, his fondness for theme-based albums (this one, as the title indicates, includes only tunes with the word "star" in the title) works out for the best, prompting a mixture of classic chestnuts like "Lost in the Stars" & "Stella by Starlight", & little-played tunes like "Count Every Star" and "Swinging on a Star".This is one of McKenna's gentler discs, perhaps a touch too dreamy; his hard-swinging side comes out only occasionally. But it gives the listener a good chance to hear his beautifully warm & thoughtful ballad-playing. McKenna is so unflashy that the casual listener may miss the amazing technical skill on display, in his ability to unfussily shift melody and chording between hands (& digits). His sense of swing is rock-steady, so much so that he is one of the few pianists with whom a drummer or bassist would be a distraction. This isn't perhaps quite McKenna's finest work--I like the near-contemporaneous disc _Shadows and Dream_ a tad better, I think (sure enough, it's a collection of tunes with "shadow" and "dream" in their titles). But it still is more than worthwhile. Concord's Maybeck Recital Hall series sometimes suggests that contemporary jazz solo piano is too full of flash & complexity; McKenna's approach cuts out all the fat: it's about as close to purity as modern jazz gets. I guess i'm in the minority with this opinion, but this is by far the best cd that I have ever heard from Dave Mckenna. It is a very exciting cd. It has already become my favorite cd by Dave.On this cd Dave plays a lot of my favorite songs. He uses great control to not mess up these songs. He does improvise a little, but not to any extreme. He gives most of the songs a nice taste. You jazz fans out there, listen up. This cd is one that you will cherish. Please give this cd a chance.Recommendation: Buy this cd and enjoy! Honeywell HHT-145 HepaClean UV Antibacterial HEPA Tower 3-in-1 Air PurifierReviewsI bought this purifier at Target because it was the most expensive one there so I figured it would work. After a week, it started making rattling noises on the low settings. The unit is very quiet but compared to other units I don't believe it moves very much air. It is cool looking but I doubt it's as functional as some of the other Honeywell Purifiers. The purifier also says HEPA clean, not true HEPA. So basically you're paying because the unit looks cool with nice lights. Don't buy it. After only an hour started to make the cyclic motor noise as others have stated. I returned and the second unit did the same. Its a great concept but poor design. This is an excellent purifier for home use. It reduces odor and dust in your house. At low fan speed, it is really quite. Value for the money. I bought the HHT-145 about a year ago and always loved the unit - my allergies are very severe which includes my face and throat swelling. About eight months ago, my husband unplugged the unit and it stopped working and I never got it to come back on. I was about to throw it out and decided to try some things again. I took the air filters out and noticed a small button behind the top air filter. I noticed that when I put the top filter back in, it did not sit flush with the button, causing it to still protrude out. So I decided to tape the button as close to the unit as I could. I replaced the filters and after not working for eight months it came on! That's the only reason I rated this a five, otherwise I was going to rate it a 1. The unit really lessened my allergy symptoms and I'm on an EpiPen because of them. I just received mine yesterday and had it set up in less than 5 minutes. I'm using it in my basement office to get rid of smoke and dog odors. I ran the unit overnight with everything turned on, and it smells great this morning! I also like the fact that it kills allergens, and other negative particulates. So far so good. :) Average Rating:![]() |

Hunter 30960 HEPA Tower Replacement filters for models 30735, 30736ReviewsIve had a hunter air purifier for a few years now. Now when i need to get a replacement i come here, since they have newer models with different size filters currently selling. Its quiet and does its job. 5 stars here. Its is a replacement filter for an air cleaner we own. It lasts about a year. Our local building supply dealer (Lowe's) no longer carries the brand so we have to purchase on-line. The product arrived earlier than advertised and in good condition. It has been in use ever since. This replacement filter was better quality than the original in my air cleaner! Very, very pleased with the price and performance. Average Rating:![]() |

Holmes® HAP412N-U HEPA-Type Mini Tower Air PurifierReviewsI have owned this Unit for years. As an air cleaner it will pick up larger particles, for small particles it's not very good, plus it is not sealed well and there is air leakage around the filter itself. Basically I have used this unit as a kind of white noise machine to drown out outside noises, I use a real air purifier to clean the air. I recently just purchased an EMF Meter because I have been concerned about radiation and electric current hot spots which can negatively affect health. Well, this little Unit sent the Meter off the charts! It registered higher than my refrigerator and microwave oven. You need to place this thing 4-6 feet away from you, especially your head, in order to be safe. If you have it on your nightstand, please move it. In addition, cheap cleaners like this one give off ozone from the ionizer so only use the ionizer feature when you're not in the room. It can damage your lungs. This is not a good air cleaner, if you really want to clean the air you need a serious product. I purchased this item based on the positive reviews. Its a lovely fan, and the noise is tolerable even on the highest level. However, as an air purifier, this unit is worthless. I ran it for one month continuously, in a dusty apartment with a cat and a dog. At the end of the month, there wasn't a speck of dust in the filter. It was pristine! The inside of the unit has this little filter indicator that confirms that a bright white filter is "brand new" as opposed to one that's "in use." So, if you want a nice fan, this is the unit for you. I live in a small studio apartment (400 square feet) with two little kittens, and with no windows and sealed concrete floors, so needless to say the air quality can be quite awful. The combination of cooking smell, litter box, and cat hair made me crazy enough to splash down cash for this unit. Un-boxing is very straight forward with really everything assembled straight from the factory. It comes with a charcoal-foam filter and a hepa filter (don't forget to take off the cover and remove the plastic wrap!) The unit sucks from the back (flat area) and exhausts the clean air via the front (round side). Simplistically, there are only two knobs that independently control the ionizer and fan speed. The speed settings are all quiet except for the fastest which sounds about as loud as a microwave. I recommend using the middle speed for everyday use. Within the first hour, I noticed a much improved overall air quality, especially around my litterbox area. Now my apartment is much fresher and pleasant to live in. Its crazy to think that such a small investment makes such a huge impact on your daily health. As far as the filters go, its about $15 for a replacement charcoal filter, and $20-25 for the hepa filter that you might replace every 3-4 months. For roughly $100 a year, its not too bad of an upkeep. I guarantee you'll love yours, I know I want to buy one for every room I stay in now. This is the first air filter I've ever bought. After using it for 6 months, I can now testify on behalf of this product. I've been using it in my bedroom (dimensions 16x12 ft) continuously on the middle setting. The noise level is minimal on the 2nd setting (sort of like a low hum... I don't even notice it anymore) and even quieter on the lowest setting. I have pretty severe dust allergies and even the first day, I noticed a difference. No more sneezing, stuffy nose, itchy throat, etc. The recommendation that came with the manual said to change the HEPA-type filter every 3-4 months. After about 4 months, I opened up the unit to check on the filters. There's a washable carbon pre-filter and a replaceable HEPA-type filter. I cleaned the pre-filter. The HEPA-type filter looked pretty much like new, so I didn't buy a new filter. (there are pictures of how dirty the filter looks at various stages inside the panel after you open it up). Last weekend, I had to go out of town to take an exam. I arranged to stay with a friend. He warned me that he had recently gotten some cats. I'm also highly allergic to cats. I loaded up on allergy medicines the weeks prior to the trip (nasal corticosteroid sprays, antihistamines) and thought that would keep me from reacting to the cats. As a last minute idea, I brought this little air filter with me as backup. And boy was I glad I did. After an hour at his apt, I started sneezing non-stop and feeling altogether miserable. I whipped out the air filter, and set it up in the bedroom. After retreating to the filtered room, my symptoms subsided and I woke up allergy-free. I see some other reviewer complaining that there is a layer of black dust/sooty material that accumulates around the filter if you have the ionizer on. The accumulation is supposedly heavier if you smoke in the house. I'm not a smoker but I still notice a thin layer of black dust around the filter. It doesn't bother me at all. You can just wipe it away with a damp paper towel (if you are on hardwood) or vacuum it up (if you're on carpet). I'd much rather have the black dust particles on the floor rather than floating around in the air where I am breathing it in. Of course, if it bothers you, you can always turn off the ionizer function and just use it as a filter. Lastly, I see some people complaining about the cost of the replacement filters. It comes out to be about $18 each if you buy from Amazon. That's not so bad ... I looked at some other brands and they're still in the teens or $20's. Some other reviewer suggested vacuuming the replacement filter so it lasts longer. This is what you would do with a permanent HEPA filter anyway, so it didn't sound like a bad idea. Today, I opened up the filter again and saw that the HEPA-type filter was covered with cat hair. :-( That was just with 2 days of continuous use at my friend's apt. So perhaps the filter would get dirty much quicker in a household with pets that shed a lot. I went ahead and vacuumed the HEPA-type filter on this unit... it cleared the filter without sending much if any dust in the air. I figure I'll change the filter once a year at this rate. I'm completely allergy free in my bedroom. However, I still sneeze in the dining room area. I'm now saving up to get an air filter for the dining room / living room area. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on bigger air filters. In summary: This little unit is affordable, portable, and effective. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get a good starter air filter for his/her bedroom and doesn't want to spend over $100 for something bigger/fancier just yet. I've had this excellent purifier for a bit more than a year, and it has been mostly on for all that time in a non-smoking environment. It is being used in our 3 year old's medium sized bedroom to minimize room dust and other airborne allergens, and usually kept in the low or medium setting. It works very well, with the air in her bedroom NOT showing dust (when the sun is shining through the windows you can see airborne dust in the light beam), while in our other bedrooms with no purifier, dust is visible. We usually get 4 to 5 months out of a HEPA filter, but you CAN 're-use' the HEPA filters by doing the following: gently vacuum the filter on both sides, until the gray or dark dust covering the filter is gone. You have just succeeded in removing most of the particles captured by the filter, and saved yourself some money. The filter can now be re-used for a few more weeks, at least! You may want to perform the vaccuming function in an outside area or garage, with a surgical mask on, so that you don't inhale any of the captured particles on the filter. The whole process usually takes me only 5 minutes, including washing the pre-filter. This model also has an 'ionizer' switch, but my advise is not to use it for more than a few minutes at most. I have read conflicting claims about the safety of using ionizers long-term. The unit works very well with the ionization option in the off position. Buy with confidence. Average Rating:![]() |

Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare FilterReviewsAny air filtration system is only as good as the filters it uses. If your system takes these filters, you have about the best of the best for allergens, dander and smoke removal short of the condensing units used for commercial purposes. I think it might even do better than those smoke eaters in bars. The ion sanitation will really change the air in your place in less than an hour. I can't recommend this filter enough, my first one is still working perfectly 6 months later at 2 hours a day use. Very good system received the 3 units 3 years ago - just hate the cost of the filters but good price on amazon. I really don't have much to say about a filter replacement. As these things go, this one is very good. It's sturdy and easy to use. It holds up well and lasts as long as the manufacturer says, even in a household with pets. The size makes it easy to store too. They aren't cheap, but I don't have to buy them too often, and it's worth it for the level of air quality they produce. The filters for this machine work really well. The machine itself is quiet, and deoderizes a small room within minutes. Average Rating:![]() |

Despite the fact that you know what an air purifier is and what it does, do you know the benefits of owning or using one? If you do not currently own an air purifier, also commonly known as an air cleaner, there is a good chance that you will want one, after examining the benefits of using one. That is right, air purifiers are that good.
As mentioned above, air purifiers work to eliminate dangerous or unhealthy contaminants from the air. Doing this makes the air inside your home easier to breathe. This is great for young children, the elderly, as well as those with allergies. When breathing cleaner air, your health is likely to improve. There is a good chance that you may find yourself getting ill less often.
In addition to getting ill less often, it has been said that the air we breathe has an impact on our emotions and wellbeing. Therefore, this means that breathing cleaner air, thanks to an air purifier, you may not only be healthier, but you may also enjoy life a little bit more. When you think about it, it is actually amazing what clean air can do for a person.
Another benefit to owning an air purifier is the cost of owning one. Unfortunately, many individuals believe that air purifiers cost too much money. It is true that their costs can be high, but you need to think about what you are getting from them. Can you really put a price tag on clean, healthy, and breathable air? Even if you must put a price tag on it, you will find that you have a number of different options. Air purifiers come in a number of different makes and models. Each of those makes and models costs a certain amount of money. This means that, with a little bit of research, you should be able to find at least one air purifier that is within your price range.
As great as air purifiers are, it is important to remember one thing. You can not reap the many benefits of owning an air purifier if you do not use it. There are many individuals who make the purchase, but do not properly use their air purifiers, if they even use them at all. In most cases, you will find that air purifiers work best if you use them all of the time. This will allow your air purifier to keep up with all of the air particles floating around inside your home or inside a particular room. Essentially, this means that if you make the decision to purchase an air purifier, make sure you actually use it.
As you should easily be able to tell, air purifiers have a number of different benefits. Each of these benefits are likely to help you out, in one way or another. Therefore, if you haven’t thought about purchasing an air purifier before, it is about time that you give it some serious though. You may very well find it to be one of the best purchases that you ever made.
