Ok... ok... ok... I know there are lots of you (like me) that are skeptical about a ~$300 product that claims to make the air in your environment smell and feel cleaner but is it actually effective? I purchased the Rabbit Air 421A in Silver back in November 2009 direct from the manufacturer. The purchase was made solely off of the Amazon reviews I read and other external websites that seemed to have nothing but glowing impressions of this fancy little box. I have spent the last several years fighting off a continued sinus infection that had gotten so bad that when I would wake up in the morning I would find myself coughing up LITERALLY coughing up mucus and phlegm. When I came home from work in the dusk I could see millions of little particles floating around in the beams of light coming in from the windows. I knew it was time to find a solution. Introducing - the Rabbit Air BioGS 421A - God's gift to the dirty air world. I felt like a kid at Christmas I was so giddy when the box arrived. Did I mention this box was giant? I really underestimated the size of this thing, but it's okay because the bigger the unit the more air it is able to clean. So I unpackaged the big boy and within 5 minutes I had the thing running. Installation was literally removing all of the bags from everything and then plugging in the charcoal filter, HEPA filter, and pre-filter, then replacing the plastic front cover and plugging it in. The unit is big but light enough to carry with one hand. Night 1 - I swore it was the best sleep I had ever gotten and I woke up feeling clear and able to breathe, although my significant other swears that it's all subliminal. By the end of the first week I was no longer hacking up pieces of my own lung. The automatic sensor(s) are so smart that I can throw a chicken on the stovetop in the kitchen and ~60 seconds later the unit kicks into high gear. Sometimes when the cat walks by the Rabbit Air whirs into full speed and scares the heck out of him (not necessarily a pro for some people but for me it is!). I catch myself doing certain things in the apartment and then mindlessly staring at the front indicator lights on my Rabbit Air to see how it feels about my actions. I was hesitant to post a positive review until I really knew if the unit worked. After 3 months of non-stop use (daytime - auto mode, nighttime - fan speed 3 mode) the unit finally beeped at me this morning to "clean filters." So I popped the front of the unit off (no screws, it just pops off!) and I didn't know whether or not to be excited or disgusted. The pre-filter was COVERED in dust, hair, big particles - it took me a solid 2 minutes to pull off of the dust off with the vacuum. Behind the pre-filter the HEPA filter also needed a quick pass and the charcoal filter was fine as is. After looking at all of the dust and dirt and pet hair (think if you opened your lint trap on your dryer) I knew the purchase was more than worth it to keep all that crap out of my air. My only complaint? That I didn't buy two to keep myself from lugging it around the apartment from room-to-room.

This thing is pricey, but it really works. I keep it in my cat's litter box room and I can't smell a thing. I haven't had to clean the filter yet, but even if it is difficult it'll be worth it because it works so well.

Do not buy this product. My husband and I bought this going off what others reviews read. We dont feel that the odor sensor worked at all, nor did it clean the air. We kept it for two weeks thinking that it just needed more time to clean the air. Didnt work. The odor still stayed in the house, and it did no more than suck air in and blow the same air back out through the top. Very expensive to purchase, very expensive to return. Very dissappointed. Returned to company, and then purchased an Oreck. Couldn't be happier with our Oreck purchase.

Given the reviews below, I purchased the Rabbit Air with great optimism but have been completely disappointed. The unit has delivered no change in air quality, and in fact often fails to notice a scent as strong as a match being light and extinguished directly in front of the sensor. With regard to observations by other users - I did not find the noise disturbing, and in fact it offered a good "white noise" background for sleeping. The display, however, is exceedingly bright and cannot be adjusted; I ended up taping a post card over it so as not to illuminate the room. Obviously I wasn't looking for a $330 noise maker and nightlight, so I will be returning the item. What's particularly disappointing (and not disclosed elsewhere, as far as I can tell) is that Rabbit Air is charging me $35 for return shipping on this worthless device. I would give 0 stars if Amazon offered that option; I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

Aside from some cosmetic issues -- the badge on the front face of the unit is a sticker that was loose (and somewhat folded and therefore will remain loose) -- this unit has been everything I expected. It is extremely quiet and sensitive -- When I walk past it after coming out of the bathroom in the morning, it senses my cologne and immediately kicks in. The true test will be when my asthmatic girlfriend returns and can judge the air quality in our smallish apartment.

I have 2 of these and 2 of the much more expensive Brookstone ones. The doctor at the allergy clinic recommended the Hunter brand. They use it in the allergy clinic. He said it isn't necessary to get the more expensive one. I think he's probably right. However, I like the fact that the Brookstone model is so easy to clean. Just pull out the filter, put it in the dishwasher, make sure it's dry, and put it back in. Either one works fine. A wise person who is careful with money will do fine with the Hunter. Someone like me who buys these things impulsively may prefer the other brand. Either way your air is going to be cleaner and you'll have fewer problems with allergies. :)

this is a great item it is very quite and beening a smoker it realy cleans the air

I bought this air filter a month ago and can't say anything bad about it. In fact will probably buy another one just like it. It is a little bigger than I thought but not that big. I recommend it to anyone.

Although I was very skeptical about this product, I am glad that I took the risk to purchase it. My husband and I are have strong allergies, and other products didn't seem to help ease it even a little. I have had it for about almost a week and our allergies have cleared up. The only negative factors are the shipping and the beginning smell. I did receive the package immediately after the order was placed. Upon receiving the package, the outside brown box was all beat up and actually open. The way it was taped had sucked since the box was practically considered open. However, inside the brown shipping box was the original air purifier box. So, I was not as upset since the actual product box was in good condition. For the first few nights, I had turned it on in the (door closed) bedroom for a few hours before bedtime. As we enter the bedroom after a few hours of being on, the product left an odd smell. The smell wasn't stinky but it wasn't pleasant either. The smell was like a new product smell, and I couldn't take it so I placed a bounce fabric softener sheet in front of the vent to suck some of that nice smell rather than the other smell. Now it is okay and my husband loves it.

I p-urchased this unit from Amazon and within 3 months of intermittent use, the unit failed. It ceased to run. When it ran it as very silent and apparently effective in a small room. The quality however was wanting.

PRICING FROM AMOZON IS ABOUT HALF OF WHAT HUNTER WAS CHARGING SO PRICE LOT BETTER. THEY LOOK THE SAME EXCEPT IT DOESN'T SAY HUNTER ON THE EDGE. MACHINE SEEMS TO WORK THE SAME, SOUNDS THE SAME .HOPEFULLY ITTHE IS NO DIFFRENCE IN THE QUAILITYAND THEY WORK WELL I RECCOMEND GO WITH AMAZONINSTEAD OF HUNTER FOR THE REPLACEMENT FILTERS,

Have had this air cleaner for several years. The Hunter air cleaner is working fine, but the filters have probably doubled in price !! Makes it painful to pay $18. plus $8. s/h for a filter !!

30930 Hunter Air Cleaner Replacement Filter Filters-now, does not carry the genuine hunter filters, they are cheap chinese filters. China makes counterfeit everything it seems. They are not made to the same standards as a Hunter filter which removes particles down to 0.1 microns and also removes odors and smoke. This is the reason I chose a hunter air purifier in the first place.

The product came just like it was promised. It fits and was what I needed. Excellent, quick shipping.

I dont get why the other person only gave this 3 stars. She's mad a Hunter...has nothing to do with the functioning of the filter. People who dont research furure costs before buying something that uses filters, then get upset afterwards are idiots. As for "cutting up a cheap $5.00 filter" to fit the Hunter....well I sure DONT know of ANY HEPA FILTERS that cost $5.00...I'm sorry. That's just plain nonsense. You want something that removes 99% of all airborn particles as small as 0.1 microns, then get the right filter....not a do it yourself one. Shop around.... that's what I did and found them for 50% less than the one listed on Amazon's site. I also recommend getting the HUNTER PRE-FILTER (IF YOUR UNIT ACCEPTS THEM) along with the additional Hunter CARBON FILTER. This is the only CUT TO FIT charcole filter that's proper to use in the Hunter. They run anywhere from 8.99 to 12.99 and are large enough for 2 applications. Helps remove odors from the house where the PRE FILTER ALONE WONT. People purchase these units to clean the air.....then dont want to go out and pay for the proper filters. What's the point???

This is a good deal. The product is quiet, looks good, and works well.

Per another review, we also had a lot of dust particles visible when the sun was shining in. Well that is a thing of the past for us. We have two dogs in the house and we all have allergies. This has reduced our Zyrtec use by at least half, and I dust only every three weeks instead of weekly. It takes minimal space in the tower version; you'll be surprised how small it is and how much air it moves. Unbelievably on the low setting you cannot hear it running; I used to check to see if it was on. The only CON is that the replacement filters are costly (I recommend every 6 months for best effect @ ~$40/ea). That is less than $7/month per unit. Just the saved time in house chores makes this worthwhile to me. Just recently Amazon has lowered the price and I think it is the cheapest price available. From my perspective as a nurse, I highly recommend this product if you have ANY respiratory health problems (sinus or asthma). I don't believe you will be sorry.

after a couple weeks using these in different rooms, i feel i got a good deal, i have a sliding glass door in my room, when its closed and the sun is bright i can see dust in the air, so i figured need an air purifier, found this deal and im happy i didint go for the round floor units, these take up very little space when placed in a corner, they keep the air curculating, and keeps the air fresh with no particles in the air(the glass door leads to the back yard, and i sometimes keep it open for my dogs) the other is in a room with a heavy smoker, that side of the house is much better than before, they move alot of air.

I have 2 of these units and they seem to work well but I've had quite a few problems. I've already had 4 of them break down on me and Rabbit Air did replace them under warranty but they are very difficult to work with and I've spent about $100.00 on shipping to return their defective units. I guess my last straw with Rabbit Air was when the last time I sent defective units back they failed to mention that they were moving and told me to ship the units to their old address so Fedex Ground ended up charging extra to reroute the units. To sum it up, they work well when they work but if you have trouble good luck! I see in some of these reviews that they paid return shipping. I asked them several times to pay for return shipping and they refused.

I have tried several air cleaners throughout the years, Sharp, Oreck, Hunter, Honeywell, Delonghi and have never been too impressed. All that changed with my Rabbit Air. I love this machine. When I bought this unit I was serious about getting a good air cleaner. I compared this and several others and came down to choosing between this and a blueAIR unit. After looking at filter costs for the blueAIR I decided to take a gamble on the slightly less widely known Rabbit Air. I have not been disappointed. It is quiet and after a month or two of use, dust and odors have greatly improved. The design is smart, with minimal electrical use, and a clever pre-filter arrangement that extends the life and freshness of the main filters resulting in low filter costs. As others have mentioned, the dust/odor sensors are questionable. Sometimes it seems to react to dust or odor, but other times it seems to be reacting to ghosts! I am actually up to three of these units now, but need another for another area. My only complaint is that these units are pricey, but like they say, you get what you pay for. When you add up the filter costs for other models this one comes out ahead within two years even against the cheap units you can find on the shelves at Wal-Mart.

I have two bluair cleaners and though they are good and top rated, they are huge and not attractive so remain in basement, out of the way, locations. These Rabbit Air cleaners not only do an excellent job of keeping the air fresh, they increase the cleaning process when they detect allergens or contaminants in the air. This allows one to know what is coming in that needs to be cleaned so one can sometimes track down a source and eliminate or reduce that source. It is very easy to clean with the washable filters and one can see if one is getting a considerable amount of dust or certain other elements that might be in the air. Cleaning the sensor with vacuum is also easy. I do not know how long the sensor lasts, at some point this might need to be replaced and I have not found any indicator that lets one know how long that might be. However as an air cleaner it is quiet even in the highest setting, not silent but definitely not too noisy. In normal mode it is silent and it does have a night time mode, special mode in allergy seasons to specifically detect allergens, and a clean mountain air mode. If this is in a kitchen or area one knows has high debris or bad air to clean, set it to super mode and it works full force until the air is clean, then turns itself down to normal mode which is silent but still working. I have used the Sharper Image Ionizer and others but this is far superior though must admit bigger so not invisible in place. Still it is superior. In winter I use this in combination with Venta air washers to humidify the air and have two air cleaners working. this and the Venta. In summer Venta puts too much humidity in the air for my region so only the Rabbit Air and the BioGS does seem to reduce the germs in the air. Often when I have guests with flu I tend to get it as well but with this, I do not get it. Additionally, during flu season when I come in having slight symptoms of flu and remain in the room with the BioGS, my symptoms are gone by morning so they do not just keep circulating in the air for me to continue to contaminate myself with the germs. Best of breed for certain.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!! DOES NOT WORK AS DESCRIBED! I bought this air purifier about 6 months ago because my son has asthma. Read many reviews all raving about the product. Other people mentioned how many pets they had and how the air purifier was able to keep up with the hair, dust and odor. So I decided to spend the extra money and get what I thought was going to be an exceptional air purifier and I COULD NOT BE MORE DISAPPOINTED. I only have one dog and it can't keep up with that.
