The fan volume is like that of a very loud desktop computer, an xbox, or a refrigerator. Not recommended if you don't want to add additional white noise to your house. I can hear this thing whirring away from the next room.

I put this in the bathroom and it works great ! It has a quiet, rhythmatic fan sound to it. Anyone who owns a litter box knows that no matter how often you clean it & scoop it out, it still smells terrible. With this, no one will ever guess you have a litter box! I'll def. be buying extra filters for this ! FYI - I paired this with the Holmes HEPA-Type Air Purifier.

I bought three of these, and they are amazing. I have one next to our guinea pig cage (we have 5), and the downstairs always smells bad. Now, unless you are right next to the cage, you can't smell a thing. I put the second in our diaper changing room. Its amazing. The smell of dirty diapers used to waft into our kitchen, but no more. Lastly, I put the third next to our dogs cage in our room. She is a big dog, and not completely house trained. Up side, our room doesn't smell like dog at all. Down side, when she messes in her crate we don't smell it, we have to find it in the morning. As a whole, they are amazing. I have been struggling with odors for so long, and refuse to spray a bunch of chemicals in the air to mask them. This little device just sucks them up. We leave them on 24/7 and so far we are just shy of 1/2 way through the life of the first filter, and we've had them for almost 3 weeks. Looks like we'll go through one filter every 6-7 weeks. All in all, five stars. You can't hear it running unless you get right up next to it, and it even has a small pad on the backside of the unit so it won't droop against the wall.

I didn't pay attention to dimensions so I was surprised by the size of the Febreeze Odor Removal Appliance. It's bigger than I thought. I imagined something along the lines of the plug in air fresheners. Luckily, it fit where I needed it -- in the bathroom, where the cat food sits . . . and smells like cat food. About an hour later, I come in to see how it was doing. The cat food is still there but the scent is all gone. I am impressed, so impressed that I am buying another one for the laundry room, where the litter box sits. OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION: This unit sports a night light. It has a quiet fan, like a soft whisper. It is not annoyingly loud. This is an air filter, so no overpowering scents, just fresh, clean air. The filter has an indicator to show when the filter needs changing.

Though I can only give the Febreze 3 stars, I am glad I own it and would buy it again. It's about the only odor removal solution for the windowless, ventless bathroom in my office. The thing, however, is its small size and relatively weak motor severely limit how quickly it removes odors. The bathroom where it labors is very small, 28" x 81". After someone has "used" the bathroom, it will take the Febreze two to three hours to remove the odors if the door is closed. As one would imagine, if the door is left slightly open the odors disappear more rapidly. However, I do not want the odors to escape the bathroom, I want them filtered out. The good news is after 5-8 minutes the "edge" is off the odor and breathing becomes more tolerable with each passing minute. The activated charcoal filter is what makes this thing work. One should be able to get to 3 months use out of a filter before buying a new one, according to the package. The unit's small size does have some positive aspects. For instance, the Febreze is unobtrusive and quiet. I would like to see a larger version with a corded plug so it could rest on the floor or a counter; thus allowing for a larger, heavier motor and larger filter. For now, though, I will be thankful for the good work it does even if it does so slowly. The packaging does not attempt to mislead prospective purchasers. It does state it works best in smaller spaces and is not meant for a large room. Though the unit for sale here is clearly labeled "Febreze", one may still find a nearly identical machine sold under the Hamilton Beach name. Some vendors sell it under both the Hamilton Beach and Febreze names. Bottom line (no pun intended): It is a good product within the limitations of its small size. Recommended for smaller rooms.

I have owned many vaporizers similar to this vicks unit. I'm going to purchase this one very soon. To clarify some earlier negative reviews: 1). This is a HOT vaporizer - meaning it boils water into steam just like when you heat pasta water - children can burn themselves with it. 2). Additionally, if the machine doesn't make steam, you probably need salt. If you've added salt and it sputters, you've added too much. 3). No one should have to scrape the electrodes. They can be soaked with vinegar which will break down the mineral deposits on the electrodes. 4). There is no adjustment mechanism for humidity - this is a simple machine for simple folks - neat, trim, cheap, but effective. As far as hot vs cold. Amongst the medical community, the debate of hot vs cold goes on and on. You'll get a different opinion depending on the pediatrician you ask. If your child is of crib age and has no chance of burning themselves by reaching for it - go with hot, which won't cool down the air you've already heated (if during winter). If your child is crawling, walking, etc, perhaps cool air mist is better for safety reasons. My last suggestion, if you use this in a small room, leave the door open (even if only slightly)which will prevent super-saturated walls, doors, etc. that previous reviews mention.

i had always used a typical vaporizer with my children, especially when they would get stuffy noses or colds. i was always under the impression that this was the best way to help with that congestion. until, with my second child, his ped. told me not to use these. she explained how the added steam and warmth to the air will actually make congestion worse. i was skeptical but i tried it, and switched to a cool mist unit. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! the cool mist gives the added moisture needed without adding the warmth to the air that can cause for greater congestion. i mean really, think about it. in the warm of summer when the humidity is high, it is harder to breathe, right?

I registered for this product even after reading the bad reviews, because I figured that if some people liked it, then it coudln't be all bad. I made a huge mistake. Everything that the bad reviews say it true. This vaporizer is a piece of junk. It is loud and clunky. It gets dangerously hot. The water burns off very quickly, then it just makes a horrible noise. Not to mention that it has no way to adjust the amount of steam it produces. The first time I turned it on, steam immediatly came pouring out. Within two minutes, everything in my daughters room was soaking wet, including her baby moniter and lamp, causing a fire hazard! If you are going to buy a vaporizer/humidifier, cough up the extra $15-$20 and get a good one. This one has been used once in my house and is already headed for the trash!

This is very quiet and easy to use. I like that there aren't a lot of parts to mess with. Great price. We haven't used the medicine vaporizer part, so can't comment on that. Actually thinking of purchasing another for my bedroom. (We use ours in the baby room.)

Let's just say that the flies in my house were not at all intimidated by this gadget. Nothing has changed, the flies just fly right in front of it and dont seem bothered by the ultrasonic waves. A fly swatter works better... Dont waste your money on this.

I must have been distracted and missed the reviews on this. I would never have bought it if I had read them. But I did buy it, I just received it and plugged it in. It is SO LOUD THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A HAIR DRYER RUNNING IN THE ROOM. How can this little thing be so loud? Well, from the reviews I guess this wont be a problem for long as it shouldnt last.

Do not buy from this company. I bought this product and my order apparently got duplicated. I called the cs# when I found this out (I received two separate shipments) and told the woman about it. She said that she would send a return label, which took forever to receive. I also got an email saying that the order had been duplicated. I sent the duplicate back and then received a REPLACEMENT in the mail, never got a refund for the duplicate charge. I sent an email to the cs because I was not willing to spend my own money to talk to another person who could not speak English well when they were the ones that screwed up in the first place. I have never heard back from this company and am reporting them to the BBB. Horrible customer service and the product doesn't work very well anyway!!!!!!!!

My unit simply stopped working in about 2 weeks (both the fan and the blue light, at the same time). Now it just emits a very low random, static noise when I plug it into the outlet. Regarding its purpose, I didn't (or was not able to) realize any difference in my environment while it was working...
