i bought this with the hopes of clearing the bedroom air of allergens that keep my nose constantly clogged up. this unit did not help my allergies but it does take odors out of the air and is very quiet.

I really like this machine. I have been running it for a few weeks. It runs so quietly. It detects odors before I can and starts cleaning the air. I think this was a good purchase.

This filter is quiet and efficient. I was concerned about the reviews that mentioned how loud the unit was. I find it very quiet. Set on auto it stays on quiet mode. When it detects an odor or poor air quality it kicks up the power, usually only to low or medium, handles the problem air quality and then kicks right back down to quiet mode.

(I'm going to try and use a paucity of words but be informative. LOL !) MY PROBLEM: Six year Granddaughter's eyes would begin to burn after her being here 1-2 hours. My eyes also burned some. I have three dogs and (my steel trap mind) immediately suspected pet dander. MY SOLUTION: I have a small entry foyer with a doggie door through the storm door leading outside and a doggie door through the main door into my home. I bought a Surround Air S3500 for that small area because that unit moves about twice as much air (CFM) as the XJ3800 and will capture heavier contaminantes such as pet hair. The higher (CFM) air movement of the S3500 creates more noise but I don't care as that noise is outside earshot. SURROUND AIR XJ3800.....put the XJ3800 in the den where most (waking) time is spent. That unit is quiet - except on highest fan speed - cause that unit is not moving a lot of air. Also has all the other needed filters/filtration plus the HEPA. VACUUM CLEANER: Also switched to a HEPA bag in the vac. MY RESULTS: Granddaughter's eyes no longer burn. My eyes no longer burn. Success. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments: 1. To clean air two things are a 'must' 1) HEPA filter....2) ability to move air through the filter. Moving air makes noise. Moving a lot of air makes a lot of noise. (Remember boys and girls, there ain't no free lunch.) Additional filters/lights certainly help with various problems but it all starts with the HEPA. 2. Despite marketing claims to the contrary, these portable air purifiers are for ONE ROOM. (Just like window air conditioners are for one room.) 3) Most manufacturer square footage claims are exaggerated. Reduce square footage certainly by one-third and by one-half to be sure. 4. CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) numbers are suspect. Stick with square footage. You want to cycle (clean) the air in the room 5-6 times per hour. Get your room measurement - length and width PLUS ceiling height - and call/email the manufacturer/vendor with that info and have them calculate the needed CFM.

In the past I've used just about every kind of air purifier that exists, and with varying costs and effectiveness, but this one just rocks my socks! It cleans everything, and I mean E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G! Dust? Not anymore. Odors? Gone. Pollen? Not a single sneeze or watery eye. This truly is the best air purifier on the market hands down. Trust me, I've done the research not to mention have practical experience with other air purifiers. I definitely recommend this to everyone. My only complaint is with the shipping - the box was all bashed up, and it looked like it was taped by a monkey! The machine had several scuff marks and a black dust all over it and inside of it, but after cleaning it off and following the Manual instructions (of running it constantly for 8 hours and then unplugging it without turning it off so as to reset the sensors and make them more sensitive) everything worked perfectly. Not a single problem with the machine, and a persistent odor that I could never seem to get rid of was completely GONE in about 36 hours of running on high. My apartment has air vent registers in the floor of each room and for some reason dust and allergens come through it from my neighbors apartments but after putting in vent register filters and running this machine it's like living in a completely different apartment! (oh and I have a cat too, and there is no kitty litter/cat poopies smell at all)

Ordered this TrueAir after friend got one and it works great. Included in the box shipped to me is Febreze 04530F Odor Removal Appliance. Very unexpected and not noted in the HB TrueAir page.

I got this to take teh smell of smoke out of teh air. It does just that. I didn't want to have to deal with changing HEPA filters, and I'm not allergic to everything in teh world. So this was perfect for me, it's pretty quiet, has a bunch of sweet modes, tells you when teh air is dirty (works VERY well), and is easy to clean. Not teh prettiest thing in teh world, but i put it behind my couch- voila. Brilliant.

For the 80.00 I paid for these, they are well worth the money. I bought 3 for my little house and I smoke. People have noticed it doesn't smell like like smoke as much as it did before and they collect alot of dust from the air. Very satisfied with this purchase.

This item is all I was looking for! I had read so many reviews about comparable products being loud and annoying, so I was prepared for the worst with this, then was most pleasantly surprised. The only time I hear it at all, is when it cycles into the "cleaning" mode for a few minutes, and then I have to be very close to even hear that. I have a friend coming to visit who is very sensitive to cats, (I have three..) and I wanted to do all I could to alleviate problems for him. One of my cats is asthmatic, as well, so this was going to be real trial. So good, so far, and my cat has even improved!!! Definite thumbs up. Shopping through Amazon has been a positive experience for years now, and this is no exception. The product arrived the next day (from an "outside" dealer) and I am definitely pleased. Will be ordering a second one in the next week or two. Thanks Amazon for continuing to meet my expectations!!

UPDATE - Dec. 13th, 2009. I received my Model #04492. It has the PERMANENT FILTER. It IS NOT TOO LOUD as some people have stated. I keep mine on Auto Sensor and I LOVE IT! After over a week of constant use (I NEVER SHUT IT OFF) my eyes are no longer PUFFY in the morning. I do not see a haze in the air any longer when the sun shines through the window either. I am not a smoker so that was not it. I had dirty air stirred up by the ceiling fan which is almost always on. This gets a 5 star from me! So much confusion here because Amazon combines it's reviews for both Models #04492 AND #04491. I noticed they use the SAME REVIEWS(same Brand Names but DIFFERENT Model Numbers) on many many items sold on Amazon. Especially CAMERAS - buyers beware. They SHOULD NOT DO THAT because it is very very MIS-LEADING! I persevered NEARLY 2 HOURS through web site after web site to confirm the FACT that the #04491 requires a $49 replacement filter every 6 months or so. After two hours of searching and reading and Price Comparing - I found a NEW IN BOX #04492 on Ebay for a total of $105 including shipping. I really have no idea how well it is going to work. All I know is I had to read site after site - ad after ad to figure out that THEY ARE NOT ALIKE in the FILTER DEPT! I almost bought the #04491 because of the Amazon Reviews from several satisfied customers that said it they LOVE the Permanent Filter... THAT WAS WRONG! Thank God I remembered about the CAMERAS and how they combine their Reviews on similar items. So I thought - just for the heck of it... and I started GOOGLING the #04492. I WAS RIGHT! They had the SAME EXACT REVIEWS for the #04492 as they did the #04491. DO NOT GET THE #04491 unless you do not mind buying the $49 air filter every 6 months. If they say 6 months - FIGURE 4 months and it will be clogged. If you shop around - you can get an #04492 CHEAPER than what some sites are selling the #04491 for. I hope this review will enlighten some of you and prevent you from buying something that an AMAZON.com review MISLED you about. Before you purchase something BIG and Expensive or Specific that you need or want - Search - Search - GOOGLE - GOOGLE! Then you will know EXACTLY what Model number you need.

I bought the mini ionic air purifier for my office. I have dust allergies and thought it would help. Unfortunately it emits an unpleasant, metallic odor. I believe it may be the ozone which other reviewers have mentioned. This odor gives me a headache and makes me feel ill. I have stopped using the mini air purifier and would not recommend purchase of it. I am now considering getting a more traditional air purifier which has a filter.

Amazon.com does not provide the dimention of products, so I was surprized that this product was so small. It makes noise when being on for a long time and that's a little scary. It's hard to tell if it works but I hope it does.

I put this in my bedroom and its wonderful! You do have to clean about every week or so but its so worth it. For me, I know I have to clean it when it starts becoming 'noisy'. I cannot breathe at night without this thing plugged into the wall. This product is made for a closet but its perfect for a small closed in room. A must have. Would definitely purchase the larger one for the whole house.

I bought this for my cat boxes. I find this unit works amazingly well. I notice an odd smell it seems to give off however, it effectively takes away that 'fresh' cat poo smell which is 100% wonderful. If I should find use for another one, I would not hesiate to buy this unit again.

I travel a lot and have two cats. My wife complained constantly of the smell even with the (various) odor absorbing cat litter(s) and electric autoscoop box. I can't say that odors are COMPLETELY gone but MUCH better especially when the box goes for some days without changing. The proof is my wife has stopped complaining. What could be more compelling? Would recommend for this application without question. Likely good for other odor problems as well but no direct experience. Low cost makes taking the plunge a pretty low risk.

Instructions for removing UV bulb are not clear; I broke mine when cleaning because the instruction manual was not very informative in how to remove the bulb and had to order a new bulb. Also the warning indicator light for the electrostatic filter was lit, inicating the filter had to be cleaned. When I dissasembled the filter, the electrostatic filter was very clean without any collected dust.

I find it to be very similar to the more expensive Sharper Image product. I've had those for years and when they give up the ghost I looked for something that was going to be as easy to clean and work effectively. I think I have found it and costing less.

bought this for my father-in-law, as an early christmas gift. he loves it. he said, from the first day he got it, he woke up with no sniffles and clear headed. we purchased it for him, after reading reviews on the cost of filters and overall pain of having to change them. this model simplified everything. no new filters to buy and easy to clean. so far, so good - it makes him happy.

I bought this for my husband who has allergies and multiple sclerosis. In August he will begin a clinical study during which his immune system will be wiped out and he'll need all the help he can get with not catching something that will kill him. Currently it sits in our rec room which was an add on in the 70s with no insulation, no heat and no air. It has a vaulted ceiling and dust, dust, dust. It works amazingly well. Easy to clean, too.

I hope I just got a rare bad one, but my unit purchased 6 months ago now sounds like a lawn mower. It gets louder as I increase the speed to medium and high. I keep it running 24/7 and I suspect the ball bearings in the fan motor are worn out. I called Therapure's customer service center to file a warranty claim and they offered to replace my unit, but they want me to pay $29.95 for a shipping and handling fee. That's 1/3 of the price I paid for the new unit 6 months ago and I'm not willing to pay another 30% of the price for them to replace my unit. Just a warning, if you ever need warranty service.

For one thing, I don't know for sure that you can find a replacement filter once you move it to another location that is smoke free. It definitely gives off a smoke odor to the whole room if so. Smoking indoors is probably the worst thing a person can do to their health. I did that back when I was younger, and I have a serious mental illness following that and excessive use of caffeine. My experience will tell you that if you smoke inside, you'll continue to inhale the smoke and end up needing to smoke more and more wherever you are. This will and should lead to chronic illness and a strong dependency on nicotine. While clearing the smoke in a smoker's house might be a good thing, and this serves that purpose well, don't plan to use the same unit in another home where there will be no smoking. It will have the effect of blowing unwanted odor into the room. Now that I've got it back from a friend, I am searching for a replacement filter. This one has been used daily for two months, and it's no longer usable in a home for him if he has a balcony. I strongly will suggest to him not to smoke in the house, because he'll always want this filter whether or not he does. Note: I checked the Therapure 201m webpages, and they suggest washing it out with a damp rag. I've just now cleaned it with cool to warm water and dish detergent, and rinsed with hot water and then cool water. It's drying out in the tub, and I'll be sure to check in the morning if there's still a smokey smell. Update: Great news. Next day after cleaning with dish detergent, the filter is good as new. I was thinking it could maybe cause the filter to fail doing that, but I am not for sure on that. No smokey odors coming from it, though, and I use incense to be sure it's not a tobacco smell.

I bought this air filter about 3 months ago and it has done a fantastic job. I am a seasonal allergy sufferer and a smoker. Yes, I smoke in the house. This air filter does a great job in my 12x17 living room with a hallway and kitchen exposure. When I start feeling my sinuses clog up from all the pollen on the way home from work, I just turn this machine on medium and in less than an hour, my symptoms are relieved. I like the uv light to kill the germs as the surrounding suburban city governments are using it to purify their water systems with success. Yes, it works well removing the smoke from the air but the down side is the HEPA filter will be stained and the company says it does not detract from the performance and it hasnt. That is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. It is somewhat noisy on the high setting but any of the air filters are. On low setting, there is hardly a whisper. I have the product in the living room pointing towards the hallway where the air conditioner filters are and I have found the air in the hallway, kitchen and back bedrooms to be batter than without.

A few nights ago I came home to find the neighbor in the apartment below mine cooking out. All of the smoke kept blowing into my apartment. My neighbor in the apartment just south of mine smokes, and somehow the smell of cigarettes makes it into my apartment as well. I came home after a long day, and I could not breathe in my own apartment. I ran out and purchased this air purifier. Within minutes, the air in my apartment cleared up. It was like having a new window that opened up to fresh air. I am simply amazed. Odors are gone. As an added bonus, this moves quite a bit of air too, and quietly. It's nice having a cool breeze of fresh clean air. This unit also has a very handy handle built into the top rear of the unit, which makes moving it around very easy.

I have had this device for about 7 months now, and I have nothing but praise for it! The filter vacuums easily and cleanly, the odor eliminating is superb, and the air in my house is always clean and fresh. I have also noticed a significant drop in my allergy symptoms since purchasing this device. On the lowest setting, it runs completely silently, you will forget you have it on. And no filters to buy ever is always a plus, it makes it worth the price.
